Self- portrait study #1

A self portrait that is going away to the south of the North Island for a contest and hopefully I will never see it again because its giving me very bad thoughts; hence the title. I shall start with the most obvious detail on the drawing; the terrible terrible knitting I attempted in PS because this drawing is A3 and my scanner is A4. Cue my face looking like its cut in half. And the watermark floating awkwardly there because I have already ruined the picture with my amateur editing so why not go all out? Next we shall come to my face, which looks like the surface of the moon and as if I don't own a face conditioner/cleanser and have very bad skin. There is some truth in all that but I am trying to emulate 's style, which as you all can see now is an absolute disaster. I like how he makes his drawings incredibly photo-realistic (a term which he doesn't really use to describe his drawings and I apologise for generalising it) yet gave them a life of their own in the form of individualised lines and details on the skin. So you can say I tried to give my drawings the same treatment and a personality with the pimples. And little hair flying around because I always looked like I've gone through a round with those static machines that make your hair stand. And yes narcissistic me admired my nose, so much so that I look like I have a bad case of sun burn because I focused too much on it.

Bad artist.

Edit: I'm not really complaining about having pimples by the way, it is a foreseen result of puberty and the stress but I'm sort of unhappy with how I drew them because even pimples can be nicely drawn and I have yet to master the art of drawing pimples
